What's a saguaro with you?

Saguaro look like people. Many-limbed, green-skinned people with more personality than they should legally be allowed. I like mimicking them—arms up, elbows bent, doing my best impression of a local.

I’ll let that visual settle in with you.

These two were my favourites of the morning. Same height, same posture. Winter sunrise hitting them just right, the desert doing that quiet glow it saves for early risers.

I think I took this photo as proof. Proof that I live here now, among these strange tall neighbours. Not in some cozy little pocket of the city, but out where the cacti outnumber the people.

Taken on 10 November, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Your Probably Nothings

In every newsletter, I’ve asked you to share something small worth noticing.

And you did. We’re all just a bunch of people walking around marvelling at leaves on the ground, clouds in the sky, and the weird way the curtain flaps in the breeze.

This first one I’m featuring is from Nicole.

The clouds looked like this one night in December and the moon was so bright you could see them even better! Mediocre lighting =

I hear that, Nicole! Perfect lighting is overrated. The not-so-perfect conditions are what you need to capture the vibes. The feelings. Or maybe just something that made you go “huh.”

Thanks for sharing, Nicole.

Seen something small worth noticing?

Reply with your own photo. I’d love to see it. There are just 3 rules: one image, no overthinking, bonus points for mediocre lighting.

P.S. I sell prints of my Probably Nothings. If you see something in the newsletter not for sale, let me know.

While there’s no official archive for Probably Nothing, these are three past issues featuring some of my favourite probably nothings.

🪟 Probably Nothing is an every-so-often photo log where each issue features one small moment that was… well, probably nothing. Think morning light on a coffee maker, or the way a cloud decides to be dramatic on an otherwise unremarkable day.
