Let’s just walk it, my husband and I say to ourselves. The coffee shop’s not far. It’s Sunday morning, which means around 60km of city streets in the heart of Guadalajara are closed to cars.
Runners, cyclists, walkers, people on roller skates form more orderly lanes than the cars that usually inhabit the road. Me, the tourist — I’m in awe. But the locals are just going about their average Sunday morning.
It’s not an average Sunday for me. So I take photo after photo. While I have plenty of shots that show swarms of cyclists around famous monuments, this single shot is the one that takes me back.
Stark shadows and bright sunlight. Small clothing stores and brightly coloured buildings. Each person doing what they usually do on a Sunday morning. Looking at this image again, I can feel the sun on my face and the slight ache in my feet.
We made it to the coffee shop. Drenched in more sweat than we’d expected. With a deeper fondness for the city.
Taken on 5 April, 2026 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Reply with your own photo. I’d love to see it. There are just 3 rules: one image, no overthinking, bonus points for mediocre lighting.
P.S. I sell prints of my Probably Nothings. If you see something in the newsletter not for sale, let me know.
