Documenting every moment of a home renovation gives you something beautiful to look back on. Sitting in your just-as-you-imagined-it living room, forgetting about the years of planning, budgeting, and frustration that got you to where you are.
With every visit to the soon-to-be home, every inch of the place would be photographed. Often days and weeks would go by without any progress at all. I quietly raged like any good Brit would do.
On the days when there was real, visual progress, my heart sang. Seeing walls go up and wiring appear within the frames was magical. But, like any true Grand Designs episode, seeing the windows go in felt like a proper milestone.
Well, I didn’t see the windows go in. One day they were leaning carefully against the side of the house. And the next time, they were in. Milestone, check!
This is the proof that I was there. As the chief home renovation documentarian, it was my job to record. Not always seen. But present. A shadow here. A reflection there.
